I’ve No Intention Of Retiring From Cricket – Jayasuriya
He has no intention of retiring from playing cricket at the moment and his target is to play for the 2011 World Cup says Parliamentarian of the UPFA for Matara District Sanath Jayasuriya. Speaking to a West Indian newspaper Jayasuriya has said he would think about retiring from cricket only after playing for the 2011 World Cup.
Mr. Jayasuriya who was elected to Parliament with the highest preferential votes from Matara District attended Parliamentary sessions only on the day new MPs were sworn in. Also, Mr. Jayasuriya who had not given any interview to a newspaper in Sri Lanka regarding his intention to play for the World Cup has given this interview to Colin Croft of ‘Guardian’ in West Indies. Colin Croft is a reputed cricket commentator and analyst and a former West Indian cricketer.
In 1982 Croft accepted a place on the rebel tour of apartheid divided South Africa in violation of an international ban on sports tours of the country. The rebel players were granted "honorary whites" status by the South African government to allow them access to all-white cricket playing areas.[1] All the players who took part in the tour were banned for life from international cricket, thus marking the end of Croft's cricket playing career.
Parliamentarian Jayasuriya has said he would not entangle cricket with politics and hoped to engage in both with success. He has said he is still energetic and would dedicate himself to be a challenge to other players in the team.
