Lanka Army to train US Army
Sri Lanka Army Commander Lt. Col. Jagath Jayasuriya said that Sri Lanka Army will provide a special training to the United States Army on the request of the latter.
He said that many other countries also have requested for training opportunities from Sri Lanka Army.
A training programme has been prepared in this regard, the Army Commander revealed. Sri Lanka Army is to impart military education regarding civilian rescue, jungle combat, and guerilla warfare etc. to the foreign armed personnel.
Sri Lanka Army was highly successful in its operations following resumption of hostilities in 2006. The Army's forward march was unstoppable for the Tamil Tiger rebels and the states forces cleared nearly one third of the country that was under the rebel control within three years.
In May 2009, the Sri Lankan armed forces destroyed the local leadership of the Tamil rebel group, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and ended the three decade war in the island.
