A Chinese company has come forward to invest in a fisheries project in the Nanthikadal lagoon, where the last phase of battle between the military and the LTTE took place in May last year, "Daily Mirror" has reported. Fisheries Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne has said this company was planning to breed ‘Seabass’ which is a delicacy in China.

Minister says “They had talks with us. They will now come up with their proposals. Seabass is a delicacy in China. Besides, we are also planning to breed some other fish varieties targeting the export market”.

The Nanthikadal lagoon became famous among people because the body of slain LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was recovered in it.
