The President had reprimanded Secretary to the Ministry of State Resources and Enterprise Development, Willie Gamage for appointing unsuitable people to positions to key posts in the state sector, sources from Temple Trees said.

Willie Gamage, who is a close confidante of Basil Rajapaksa, is the former head of SEMA.

Soon after President Mahinda Rajapaksa assumed office in 2005, heads and directors to state institutions were made under Basil’s and Willie’s supervision.

This time around First Son Namal Rajapaksa and Additional Presidential Secretary Gamini Senarath were assigned the task of making appointments to government institutions. However, the President has reprimanded Willie over several directors who had been appointed to state institutions following his recommendations, as they were not qualified to hold the respective position.

The President had also criticized Willie for carrying out his “Thineth” advertising agency solely on advertising from state institutions like the Lotteries Board. Thineth, located at the Ocean Tower building in Bambalapitiya is owned by one Lalith Hewagama while Willie is a key share holder of the company.

Working with Willy for nearly one year in shaping up the Ranawiru Housing at Ippologama, under the Api Wenuwen Upi programme and his closeness to the President Rajapakse, and the way he selected people to various positions it is very doubtful that President will castigate Mr. Gamage for such action.Willy will never select unsuitable people for any post if he can avoid it.

We salute, Mr. Willy Gamage for his monumental work done to bring back liberation to this paradise...He is a man who never forgets what soldiers did during the war, and brought the concept of ”Api Wenuwen Api”…He has been the backbone of the President for many years and this news is utterly false..as Mr. WG will never take such wrong selections to any institutions whatsoever as far as all knows…One mustn’t forget that no one can make everybody satisfied satisfied….and smooth sea will never make a efficient mariner

This can never be accepted as Mr Willy Gamage would never appoint unsuitable people at any cost as he himself is well educated and in fact being the back borne of the success of the Government.
