Petition Filed For Eknaligoda Put Off To 27th April
The Appeal Court put off until 27th April the petition filed by the wife of Prageeth Eknaligoda and his two children seeking an order from Court to produce Eknaligoda, journalist and cartoonist of ‘Lanka E News’, who has been disappeared without any information.
The petition came before Appeal Court Judges Ranjith Silva and D.S.T. Lekamvasam yesterday (16th). The DIG in charge of CID, Inspector of Police at Homagama Police and IGP Mahinda Balasooriya have been named as respondents.
Ms. Eknaligoda in her petition states Mr. Eknaligoda left home at 10.40 a.m. on 24th December to go to ‘Lanka E News’ office and that was the last time she saw him. He had told her he would participate at the religious ceremony arranged on behalf of Gen. Sarath Fonseka at Kelaniya Temple in the evening. However, he had told a friend he would miss the event as he had to meet another friend of his. That was the last message received from him.
She, in her petition, further states Mr. Eknaligoda, on a previous occasion, had been abducted by a disguised gang while he was coming home from Dambulla, put into a white van, tortured and left on the road.
