Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

The Galle to Matara portion of the Colombo – Matara rail line would be closed for 7 months from May this year to develop it to a high-speed track states Ministry of Transport. Special bus services would be started from all railway stations between Galle and Matara for the convenience of commuters travelling between Gall and Matara states the ministry.

The Colombo – Matara rail line would be developed into a high-speed track in three stages. The first stage of the project would be the line between Galle and Matara. The other two stages are from Galle to Aluthgama and from Aluthgama to Colombo.

The high-speed track would be developed so that trains could travel at a speed of 100 kmph which would reduce the journey from Colombo to Matara to two hours. The cost for the whole project is met by the Indian government and the constructions would be carried out by the Indian company ‘Iricon.’
