Sri Lankans In Italy Agitate For Third Time Demanding General's Release
A protest march was organized in Napoli in Italy on the 7th to demand the government of Sri Lanka to immediately release Gen. Sarath Fonseka who is being arbitrarily detained by the SL. Army. According to the organizers of this event the protest march is the third of the protest events held in Italy against the arrest and detention of Gen. Sarath Fonseka.
"The movement for Democracy in Sri Lanka - Italy" had organized the protest march. The protestors marched carrying placards demanding the government of Sri Lanka to release Gen. Sarath Fonseka immediately and establish democratic rights including media freedom. The protest march that went round Napoli town shouting slogans and distributing leaflets to apprise masses regarding issues in Sri Lanka captivated the interest of city dwellers. At the rally held after the protest march Sri Lankans representing various cities in Italy addressed the gathering.
A special feature of the rally was the address by Ms. Anoma Fonseka over the phone. The protest march that marched from Piazza Cavour to Piazza Dante took four hours.
