IIFA ceremony without popular actors

UNP M P Rosie Senanayake , said , the IIFA awards ceremony was made a failure because of the Govt.’s own weaknesses. Not only the local fans were disappointed by the refusal of the popular actors , Shah Ruk Khan , Amitab Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai to participate at the event , the whole country has suffered a loss because the country’s revenue on ticket sales was impaired.

Because the Tamil people of South India mounted protests against the arrival of the world renowned actors in SL , they were compelled to cancel their visit. This is a very poor reflection on the Govt. because these protests were staged not in vain but for a reasonable cause- that is against the Govt.’s lethargy in re settling the many lakhs of Tamil refugees displaced during the war , and for resorting to dilatory tactics to resolve the National issue.

The UNP is always with the govt. if it does anything for the benefit of the country . In this instance too , UNP was pleased about this event . But , even that simple ceremony has been made a hash by the Govt. because of its shortsighted policies and selfish political objectives.

The Tamils are also citizens of this country . But the Govt. is not treating them like that .  Although it promised to provide a political solution to them after the war , it has not presented a solution to the Tamils’ issue. The displaced Tamils too are in acute misery without proper  food , clothing and shelter even after the war ended. The Govt. instead of seriously addressing the burning issues of the people is indulging in comic activities to amuse itself and gratify its  maniacal whims providing ad hoc solutions.

The Govt. is seeking to multiply rather than simplify the problems . Even after  the war has been won , it is unable to eliminate the dangers of a revival of terrorism by ignoring the urgent national and ethnic issues . The protests against the IIFA ceremony is an illustration , she pointed out.
