Bacardi’ Takes Over ‘Mathata Thitha’ – Free Liquor At IIFA Cricket Match!
A world famous liquor company is planning to provide free liquor for all special guests invited for the ‘IIFA’ cricket match to be held concurrent with the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) festival to be held in Colombo. ‘Bacardi,’ the world famous liquor company is a co-sponsor of the cricket match.
‘Bacardi’ which has its headquarters in Hamilton in Bermuda sells in excess of 200 million bottles per year in nearly 100 countries and its sales in 2007 were US$5.5 billion.
According to law in Sri Lanka providing free liquor for advertising purposes is illegal. However, the government has given permission to this world famous liquor giant to violate Sri Lankan law to advertise its products. Many have expressed their dismay at the humiliation of those advocated ‘Mathata Thitha’ campaign put forward by ‘Mahinda Chinthanaya’ and ask what action they would take regarding such acts of the government to popularize Bacardi’ liquors.
