Rajapakse Family – The New Owners Of Insurance Corporation
It is reported that Insurance Corporation of Sri Lanka is to be bought by Gotabhaya Rajapakse. The deal is to be carried out through Harry Jayawardene, who had bought 49% of the shares of the Corporation that belonged to ‘Lanka Hospitals (Apollo Hospital). Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse would be handed over these shares by Mr. Harry Jayawardene.
It is due to this deal that Harry Jayaswardene has been appointed as the Chairman of Ceylon Petroleum Corporation. Appointing Jayawardene as the Chairman of CPC is illegal as he is one of the main purchasers of furnace oil from the CPC. However, he was appointed the Chairman on orders from the Executive President. Appointing him the Chairman of CPC is a part of the ‘Insurance Corporation’ deal say reports.
Earlier it had been reported that Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse took the ownership of ‘Apollo Hospital’ and it was named ‘Lanka Hospital’ after it changed ownership. It had also been reported that attempts made earlier by Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapakse to own Insurance Corporation had failed.
