Governor of Sri Lanka’s Central Bank, Ajith Nivard Cabraal had organized a special meeting with investors in Washington DC on the 12th with the intention of getting some foreign investments in to the country. However, it is learnt that his efforts had been in vain.

The Sri Lankan ambassador in Washington had organized the meeting that was attended by representatives from leading US firms. Although Cabraal has explained the developments in Sri Lanka’s stock market and the infrastructure development programmes put in place in the country, the US investors have not made any positive responses.

They had reportedly informed that following the allegations of human rights violations and dictatorial path taken by the current government, the US investors needed time to think about making investments in the country.

Some businessmen had even raised doubts over the economic indicators used by Cabraal and had requested whether the delay in the International Monetary Fund releasing its next tranche to the country was due to its bad economic management.
