He had decided not to announce his decision to contest for the party leadership
following advice received from his theoretician.
Sajith has already launched a special campaign aimed at taking over the party
leadership and parliamentarians Rosy Senanayake, Sujeewa Senasinghe, Ranjith
Madduma Bandara, Dilip Wedarachchi, Thalatha Atukorale, John
Amaratunge, Kabir Hashim and Earl Gunaseker are supporting him in this endeavor.
Although parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekera has expressed solidarity with
Sajith, he has launched a separate campaign with UNP provincial councilors with
the intention of becoming a future leader of the party.
